SINGAPORE - A fire broke out on Wednesday (Sept 13) afternoon at the basement of Changi Airport Terminal 2.

The incident, which happened on the same floor as the public bus stop, also caused the fire alarm to go off.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force were alerted to the fire at 4.04pm, and sent a fire engine and a Red Rhino.

The fire involved discarded items at the back of a lorry, and The Straits Times understands it happened at the loading bay.

The fire was extinguished by airport emergency services before the SCDF arrived, and there were no reported injuries.

In a tweet posted at 4.55pm, SBS Transit said that bus services 24, 27 and 53 will skip the Changi Airport Terminal 2 bus stop, as the bus stop was closed.

Changi Airport posted on Facebook at 5.01pm, that there was no access to the Terminal 2 basement due to a "small fire incident".

"The fire has been put out but as a precaution, the area is being checked for the time being," it said.

It said that bus commuters would disembark at the departure level instead, while services at the basements of Terminals 1 and 3 were as per normal.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience caused."

It later posted at 5.21pm that access to the Terminal 2 basement was open again and bus services had resumed, and said that it was the contents of a shredder machine that had caught fire.

In May, a fire at T2 caused an unprecedented shutdown of the terminal,which delayed flights and affected travel plans of thousands of travellers.
