SMRT's chief executive Desmond Kuek says the train operator needs to move away from "firefighting mode" and instead move to a mode where they deliberate in achieving excellence in all given areas.
Mr Kuek, speaking to reporters at a media conference to lay out the company's strategic thrusts, said that SMRT is looking to provide a "holistic and positive lifestyle experience".
With regards to safety, the operator will form a technical advisory panel to provide necessary advice and expertise and its engineering schemes and capacity will also be strengthened.
There are also plans to benchmark staff salaries to the market standards and align incentives to performance. SMRT could have a possible head count growth of up to 10 per cent including new hires in maintenance and operations.
