SINGAPORE - The police are investigating an incident in Jurong in which a 67-year-old man was hit by a car last week when he cycled across a zebra crossing.

The police told The Straits Times on Monday (Feb 19) that they were alerted at 5.49pm last Tuesday (Feb 13), to the accident along Jurong West Avenue 2, in the direction of Jurong West Avenue 4.

The cyclist was taken conscious to the National University Hospital.

In a Facebook post on the evening of the accident and later updated on Friday (Feb 16), a netizen who identified himself as the cyclist's son, Mr Tham Yiep Soon, wrote that an eye witness had provided him the dashboard camera footage of the accident. The clip was also posted on Facebook.

He said that his father, who always warned him of near misses when crossing the road, had taken precautions before crossing the zebra crossing.

"In the video my dad has clearly raised his hand to signal his intention to cross the road. The car which captured the accident stopped and gave way to him," he wrote.

"My priority now is to have my dad recover well as he is in ICU (intensive care unit) now."

The dashcam video shows Mr Tham's father, dressed in white and riding a bicycle, raising his hand before cycling across the zebra crossing.

The car that recorded the dashcam clip stops on the left lane of the two-lane slip road.

As Mr Tham's father was cycling across, a silver Toyota appears on the right lane and hits him, knocking the cyclist and bicycle onto the road.
