A WOMAN was charged in court yesterday in connection with the death of her son last Saturday.

Koh Sook Hoon, 42, allegedly committed murder by causing the death of the seven-year-old boy, who is believed to be autistic, at 12.53pm that day. He was found lying face down at the foot of a Housing Board block in Tampines.

He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

The boy was living in the flat with his parents, an older brother and his grandmother.

In court yesterday, Koh, who was unrepresented and clad in a black, long-sleeved top and bottom, looked down most of the time. She will be held at the Changi Women's Prison for psychiatric assessment until Oct 7, when her case will be mentioned.

District Judge May Mesenas ordered that the victim's name not be published. Koh's husband and parents-in-law turned up in court yesterday. If convicted of murder, Koh faces the death penalty.

In June last year, a 31-year-old woman was charged with the murder of her nine-year-old son who was found unconscious at the foot of the block of her three-room West Coast Road flat. He died later in hospital.
