Two new appointments to the Supreme Court Bench

SINGAPORE - A new Judge and Judicial Commissioner will be appointed to the Supreme Court Bench, the Prime Minister's Office said on Wednesday morning (May 13).

Mr George Wei Sze Shun, 60, and Ms Foo Tuat Yien, 61, will be appointed as Judge and Judicial Commissioner respectively.

Mr Wei is a Judicial Commissioner in the Supreme Court. He is an expert in intellectual property law in Singapore.

He was a Professor at the University of Singapore (now the National University of Singapore) and Singapore Management University (SMU) before to his appointment to the Bench.

Ms Foo is currently a Senior District Judge at the State Courts. She joined the Legal Service in 1976.

Before her current appointment, she served as Assistant Chief Executive of the Competition Commission of Singapore. She also served as Registrar of Titles and Deeds and Controller of Residential Property.

Both Mr Wei and Ms Foo were appointed by the President of Singapore, with the advice of the Prime Minister.

The appointment will take effect on May 25. They will be sworn in at a ceremony at the Istana on May 26.

With these appointments, the Supreme Court will have a total of 14 Judges.
