SINGAPORE - Two men have been arrested for suspected involvement in separate molestation cases in the Outram Road area.
In the first case, a 30-year-old man allegedly molested a 33-year-old woman at Outram Park MRT on June 1. She called the police, who caught him on the same day at 10.15 pm.
In the second case, a 72-year-old man is believed to have molested a 49-year-old woman on board a bus travelling along Outram Road on June 2. The victim sought help from the bus captain, who called the police. The suspect was detained at 2.05 pm on the same day.
If convicted, the suspects could be jailed up to two years, fined, and caned.
In the first quarter this year, 42 molestation cases were reported, up from 29 for the same period last year, police figures show. This follows a rise in reported cases from 114 in 2011 to 154 in 2012 and 156 last year.
