Two men jailed for molestation offences

SINGAPORE - Two men were sentenced to jail terms on Wednesday for separate molestation offences.

Taxi driver Png Xun Liao, 64 - formerly known as Sunny Png Soon Lai - fought two charges during an eight-day trial, but was convicted and received seven months in prison. On two different occasions in July 2012, Png touched his 20-year-old neighbour on the ground floor of two different Housing Board blocks along Yishun Ring Road.

The court ordered that Png should start his sentence on Sept 8 after he asked for time to get medication from a doctor.

Meanwhile Francis Anthiraya, 49, was jailed for a year after touching a 46-year-old woman's stomach on a bus travelling along Benoi Sector in July.

The cleaner, who has mild mental difficulties, has a history of similar offences dating back to 1991. The most recent, in 2004, saw him jailed 15 months and caned four times after he touched a woman's hip and groin area on an MRT train.

The maximum penalty for molestation is a jail term of two years, a fine, and caning.
