SINGAPORE -Two 22-year-old suspects have been arrested for armed robbery, police said on Thursday (Feb 11).

The two men are allegedly involved in a holdup at a convenience kiosk along Serangoon Road at about 3.30am on Thursday.

The two suspects, wearing balaclavas and armed with a knife, robbed the kiosk of cash amounting to $600 and 20 cartons of cigarettes before fleeing, police said.

Police officers responding to the crime spotted two suspicious men who fled upon seeing the police. The officers gave chase and arrested one of the suspects.

After further investigations, the officers arrested the second suspect at Blk 520 Woodlands Drive 14 at about 2.30pm.

Cash, cartons of cigarettes, gloves, a balaclava and an assortment of weapons were seized.

The two suspects will be charged on Feb 12. If convicted of committing armed robbery, they face a jail term of three to 14 years, and can be caned at least 12 strokes.
