SINGAPORE - An elderly taxi driver was charged on Friday with causing grievous hurt to a woman by doing a negligent act.

Thow Ngok Sen, 70, was driving along Bishan Street 11 on March 13 at about 2.20am when he allegedly caused grievous hurt to Ms Abigail Ow Hui Xia, 22, at a bus stop.

While reversing his vehicle, he mounted the road kerb and hit a parked motorcycle and then Ms Ow. The right wheel of the vehicle then ran over the woman and pinned her under the cab, causing serious bodily injuries.

Thow indicated that he wished to apply for help under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme.

His $5,000 police bail has been extended. The case will be mentioned on Aug 29.

If convicted, he could be jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
