SINGAPORE - A former hospital porter who committed six sexual offences against a minor was jailed for 18 months on Wednesday (Nov 11).

Muhammad Sali Ifwat Zainodin, 22, had admitted to three charges of sexual penetration of a minor at HDB staircases between May and July last year.

A district court heard that he got to know the girl, then 13, some time in April last year through a WhatsApp chat group.

The following month, they decided to meet and enter into a formal relationship.

Between May and July the same year, he met her near the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority Building in Kallang. They then went to a nearby HDB staircase where they had consensual sex.

Over the same period, he had sex with her two more times in other places.

The police came to know of a case of underage pregnancy at KK Women's and Children's Hospital in May this year.

Three other charges including two of oral sex were taken into consideration.

Sali, who joined Certis Cisco in February this year and was subsequently terminated, said he had to pay a bond of about $7,000 to his former employer. He told the court that her family members had asked him to marry the girl when she comes of age. He also said he came to know later that she had another boyfriend.

Last Thursday, the victim's former boyfriend, Izzul Islam Abdul Razak, 18, admitted to one of three charges of underage sex with her in a toilet of Woodlands Waterfront Park on Feb 17 this year.

They had become acquainted through the mobile app Instagram in February last year, and began chatting on WhatsApp.

Their relationship ended two months later.

But in February this year, Izzul messaged the girl, saying he missed her and wanted to meet up again. They met at Woodlands Library on Feb 17.

They adjourned to Woodlands Waterfront Park and talked about their previous relationship.

He told her he still had feelings for her and asked her to have sex with him, but she rejected him. He continued to pester her.

After a while, she went to the handicapped toilet as the female toilet was being washed. She was about to close the toilet door when Izzul went into the toilet and began touching her. He had sex with her.

After that, he did not contact her or reply to her messages. She had changed her mobile by March, and did not want to keep in contact with him any more as she felt that she had been "used for sex''.

On May 11, she suffered bad stomach cramps and heavy bleeding due to a miscarriage.

A community court postponed sentencing pending a probation report on Dec 3.
