Police warn of fake letters sent to public

Police warned yesterday of fake letters, purportedly from the police force, which were sent to members of the public.

The letters required recipients to report at Central Police Division on Tuesday to assist in investigations into "an offence of Public Nuisance committed at Cantonment Police Division on Nov 28, 2016".

They were signed by an "Inspector Wong Ka Wei, Senior Investigation Officer, Central Police Division".

Police said these letters were not issued by them. They added: "There is no Cantonment Police Division within the Singapore Police Force and there is also no officer by the name of Insp Wong Ka Wei from Central Police Division."

If in doubt, members of the public may verify the authenticity of such letters by contacting the respective police divisions at www.police. gov.sg/content/contact-us.
