SINGAPORE - A man and a woman have been arrested for their suspected involvement in loan sharking activities.

The police received a report last Saturday (Dec 5) that a unit at Sembawang Drive had been splashed with paint, and that graffiti had been scrawled on the wall.

After enquiries, the pair were nabbed near East Coast Park on Tuesday (Dec 8) with loan shark paraphernalia like bicycle locks and markers in their possession.

The man, 35, and the woman, 23, are believed to have committed similar offences in Ang Mo Kio, Woodlands and Bukit Panjang.

They will be charged in court on Thursday (Dec 10), the police said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 9).

If found guilty of loan shark harassment, first-time offenders could be fined between $5,000 and $50,000, jailed up to five years and caned up to six strokes.
