SINGAPORE - A full-time national serviceman (NSF) who molested a woman was jailed for 30 months and ordered to be given three strokes of the cane on Wednesday.
Radin Rizwan Radin Rosman, 22, who faced three charges, admitted to groping the 25-year-old freelance graphic designer whom he restrained by using his weight to pin her down along a pathway in the West Coast area on March 17 this year.
The victim was sent to hospital where she was treated for bruising, superficial abrasions over her elbows and a small 2cm abrasion over her chest area.
Radin had a molestation and a dishonest misappropriation of a bicycle charge taken into consideration. He could have been jailed for up to 10 years on the proceeded charge.
A district court heard that the victim alighted from a cab and was walking along a pathway beside the Ayer Rajah Expressway towards the back entrance of her condominium estate that evening when Radin spotted her while cycling. Radin, who had snuck out of camp, decided to follow her.
Just as the victim was about to reach her estate, he came from behind and hit her hard on the head, causing her to fall onto the ground.
She immediately turned around and faced Radin who pinned her down and tried to pull her into the bushes. He punched her a few times on her face and head. She screamed but he covered her mouth and told her to "shut up, bitch''.
The victim put up a violent struggle, trying to break free. Radin, who was still on top of her, used his weight to pin her down. He slipped his hand into her vest and molested her. He covered her mouth and nose to prevent her from shouting and breathing.
The victim continued to put up a struggle and scratched Radin's face and his right little finger.
Unhappy, Radin pushed her head onto the ground twice. When he saw a passer-by coming, he got off the victim and fled.
