Murder case: Psychiatrist to evaluate accused maid

An Indonesian maid accused of murdering her female employer has been remanded for another two weeks for psychiatric assessment.

Daryati, 23, who goes by one name, was charged earlier at Changi General Hospital with the murder of Madam Seow Kim Choo, 59, at a semi-detached house in Lorong H Telok Kurau between 8.30pm and 8.45pm on June 7.

Yesterday, the prosecution sought another two weeks for the psychiatrist to evaluate Daryati, who appeared via video link.

Daryati was represented by Mr Mohamed Muzammil Mohamed, who had no objections to the further adjournment.

Daryati had been working for Madam Seow for about two months.

The victim's body was found motionless by her husband, businessman Ong Thiam Soon, 57, in a bathroom in the house. He had also sustained injuries to his neck, forehead and leg.

The case will be mentioned on July 20. If convicted of the charge of murder with intention, Daryati faces the mandatory death penalty.
