Molester gets 11 months jail

SINGAPORE - A man was sentenced to 11 months jail on Wednesday for molesting a woman at Hong Lim Park.

Restaurant manager Sahari Akesah, 42, was walking along Eu Tong Sen Street at around 4.30am on Nov 9 last year when he noticed the victim standing at a traffic light junction.

Then at about 5.40am, the victim was walking along a pathway at Hong Lim Park when she saw Sahari running past her.

He stopped abruptly and brushed and rubbed her chest with his right hand. He then told her that she had nice breasts.

In mitigation, Sahari's lawyer said that corrective training would be excessive.

Corrective training is a tough regime for repeat offenders with no remission for good behaviour.

Deputy public prosecutor Eunice Lau argued, however, that the accused was a repeat offender. He had last been sentenced to five years corrective training with six strokes of the cane in 2009.

Sahara could have been jailed for up to two years for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of his victim. He could have been jailed up to one year for insulting the modesty of a woman.
