Man peeps into flat, assaults family

A 35-year-old interior designer assaulted a family of four, who confronted him for peeping into their home in the early hours of the day, and also molested one of the family members.

Yesterday, Koong Kin Cheong was jailed for 10 months and two weeks, with three strokes of the cane, after pleading guilty to a charge of molestation and three counts of causing hurt. Two other charges of causing hurt were considered in sentencing.

A district court heard that at about 2.30am on May 28, 2014, Koong peeped into the living room of a Kallang flat from the corridor. A 20-year-old woman saw him and shouted. Her shouts woke up her brother, 19, mother, 54, and father, 55. The father went out and saw Koong, who said that he was looking for a friend.

When the daughter stepped in front of Koong to stop him from leaving, he slapped her twice. He then punched the mother and brother in the head. Koong also punched the father and kicked his left thigh.

When Koong appeared to have left, the daughter knelt on the ground and tended to her mother. But he suddenly turned back, went behind the daughter and grabbed her breasts from behind. He then fled.
