SINGAPORE - A 26-year-old technician, who was engaged to get married, got into a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, a court heard.

He was caught out when he engaged in sexual acts with her at a staircase at Kandang Kerbau Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), after she had been warded there for an infection.

Sulaiman Malek, now 27, was on Tuesday (June 7) jailed for 22 months for sex and drug offences.

He pleaded guilty to six charges: One count of consuming methamphetamine and five counts of sexual penetration of a minor.

He admitted to eight other charges of sexual penetration of a minor, which were considered in sentencing.

A district court heard that Sulaiman met the girl, who cannot be named to protect her identity, in the middle of 2015.

They had sex for the first time when hetook her to his friend's home in Toa Payoh shortly after.

He entered the shower while the girl was bathing, and then asked her for sexual intercourse and she agreed.

They had sex regularly thereafter, at places such as a flat belonging to Sulaiman's god sister, to the girl's living room, and a toilet at his friend's home.

In early Dec 2015, the girl was warded at KKH for a foot infection.

Sulaiman met her at the hospital lobby and they chatted for a while.

They then went to a basement level staircase, where they engaged in intimate acts and had sex.

He was captured on closed-circuit television cameras walking with the girl towards the staircase and again when they left by a different route.

Sulaiman left the hospital about two hours after he arrived.

The police were informed by the hospital of the incident three days later.

On Dec 29, anti-narcotics officers arrested Sulaiman at Bukit Gombak MRT station on suspicion of consuming a controlled drug. The officers then realised that he was wanted by police for sexual offences.

His urine sample tested positive for methamphetamine, a controlled drug. He said he took the drug in his home toilet.

Sulaiman could have been jailed for 10 years and fined $20,000 for his drug charge.

He could have been jailed for 10 years and also fined for each count of sexual penetration of a minor.
