SINGAPORE - A prime mover crashed as it was travelling along Jurong Town Hall Road on Thursday (Feb 15), sending its driver and two passengers to hospital.

The driver, Mr Sivakumar Perumal, 43, who suffered injuries to his face and chest, later died at around 7.50pm.

But this tragedy could be more than just a traffic accident when one of the passengers, Saravanan Arimuram, 31, was charged in court on Saturday with murdering him between 5.30pm and 5.48pm that day.

The Straits Times understands that he allegedly got into a fight with Mr Sivakumar who was then driving the vehicle.

Police said in a statement on Friday that they were alerted at around 5.50pm about an accident involving a prime mover in Jurong Town Hall Road towards Ayer Rajah Expressway.

Three Singaporean men, between 18 and 43 years old, were then taken to the National University Hospital.

Police said: "Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident is believed to have resulted following a dispute between the deceased and the suspect."

Court papers did not mention if Mr Sivakumar's injuries were caused by the accident or if they were inflicted before the crash.

Saravanan, who was dressed in a bright yellow tank-top with the words "Yellow Ribbon Project", kept his eyes closed in the dock as the charge was read out to him on Saturday morning.

He is remanded at Central Police Division and will be back in court on Feb 23.

Saravanan will face the death penalty if convicted of murder.

ST understands that the teenager has since been discharged from hospital.
