Man arrested for series of thefts in churches

SINGAPORE - A 35-year-old man allegedly responsible for a string of thefts in churches was arrested by the police on Tuesday along Geylang Lorong 6.

On Jan 3, police received a report that the man had allegedly stole a bag from a church along West Coast Road.

Following that, several similar reports from churches located in the Pasir Panjang Road and Queenstown areas were also filed.

With the aid of CCTV footage, police conducted follow-up investigations, established the identity of the suspect, and made the arrest.

Police recovered more than $1,600 in cash, along with clothes worn by the suspect during the thefts.

The suspect is believed to be behind several other cases of bag thefts islandwide.

He will be charged in Court on Wednesday for theft and could be jailed up to three years, fined, or both.
