Man, 54, arrested for suspected housebreaking

SINGAPORE - A 54-year-old man suspected to have broken into a Dunearn Road condominium unit has been arrested.

The alleged housebreaking occurred on Tuesday afternoon, when a female occupant returned home to find the suspect in her apartment. He hurriedly left the scene upon being spotted, and the owner later called the police.

The suspect was arrested some six hours later, and is expected to be charged in court on Thursday for housebreaking. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison and a fine.

The police advise property owners to ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are properly secured with quality grills and close-shackled padlocks. Valuables should also be stored away, and burglar alarms installed for added protection.
