Man, 26, charged with murder at St James Power Station

SINGAPORE - A 26-year-old man was charged on Tuesday (March 14) with murder over the death of a 35-year-old man at St James Power Station on Sunday.

Shawalludin Sa'adon appeared in court clad in a red shirt and a pair of dark blue bermudas.

The victim, Mr Satheesh Kumar Manogaran, sustained stab wounds to his head and back. He later died in hospital. Another man, 28, suffered injuries to his head.

In a statement on Monday night, the police said they arrested four men in connection with the incident which happened on Sunday morning.

The alleged assailants are aged between 20 and 28, and were arrested following investigative probes and ground inquiries by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Police Intelligence Department, police said.

Shawalludin was arrested on Sunday, and officers subsequently established the identities of the three other suspects and arrested them in an operation a day later.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident is believed to have arisen from a dispute between the deceased and a staff member of Postbar, a nightspot at St James, which is near VivoCity.

The suspect is remanded at Central Police Division. The next hearing is scheduled for March 21.

Two more suspects, aged 22 and 28, will be charged in court on Wednesday (Mar 15) for the offence of murder with common intention.

Investigations are ongoing against the fourth suspect.
