Jobless man jailed for punching wife's lover and cheating him out of $3,000

SINGAPORE - A jobless man who punched his pregnant wife's lover then cheated him out of almost $3,000 was jailed for six months on Tuesday.

Yazid Ab Rahman, 33, discovered that Mr Abdul Hamid Md Jana was having an affair with his wife and arranged to meet him at a HDB void deck in Jurong East Street 21 on April 3 last year.

After introducing himself, he hit the 27-year-old in the face several times, leaving him with a cut nose.

Yazid's wife had told her lover she was pregnant - although it was unclear who the father was - and she received money from him.

On July 1, Yazid, who knew about the discussions and arrangement, lied to Mr Abdul Hamid that his wife had had an abortion. He induced him to hand over $2,880 in bank transfers and cash.

It is understood that Yazid's wife had in fact suffered a miscarriage.

Yazid pleaded guilty to two charges. One other charge, for threatening to assault Mr Abdul Hamid on Aug 12, was taken into consideration.

For cheating, Yazid could have been jailed for 10 years and fined. For voluntarily causing hurt, he could have been jailed for up to two years and fined $5,000.
