Chief prosecutor is 3rd Solicitor-General

Ms Mavis Chionh Sze Chyi has been appointed as the Third Solicitor-General, and will assume her new role next month.

She will continue to hold her current position as chief prosecutor at the criminal justice division in the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

Ms Chionh, 47, started her legal career as a Justices' Law Clerk in the Supreme Court in 1991.

She has held different appointments in the legal service since then, including stints as a district judge in the then Subordinate Courts, and deputy principal senior state counsel in the AGC's Civil Division.

Maritime firm wins green award

The maritime industry was recognised for its efforts in going green, with a shipping and logistics firms bagging two awards at the 19th Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards on Wednesday.

Wallenius Wilhemsen Logistics won the SEC-CDL Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award, making it the second consecutive year that a maritime organisation has received the award.

Last year's winner was the Maritime and Port Authority.

WWL also won the inaugural SEC-MPA Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Maritime), which serves to recognise maritime firms that are at the forefront of sustainability efforts.

Police arrest suspect in Geylang murder

A 64-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a murder in Geylang earlier this month, police said yesterday.

The victim, a 52-year-old man, was found dead near a coffee shop in Lorong 23 Geylang on July 9. He had a deep cut running from his left ear to the top of his head, and a wooden stick was found nearby, reports said.

If he is convicted of murder, the suspect faces the death penalty.
