SINGAPORE - A former supermarket sales assistant was jailed for 15 months yesterday for having sex with a 13-year-old student.

Chinese national Yu Bi, 29, who faced four charges, admitted two counts of underage sex with the victim at the staircase landing of a condominium in February and May this year.

The court heard that the victim got to know Yu through the QQ online chat early this year.

Sometime in February, he went to the girl's condominium then took her to the eighth floor staircase landing where he committed the offence. He repeated the act three months later.

The court heard that he knew that she was still a secondary school student. He admitted lying to the victim that he was 20 years old at the time.

His sentence was backdated to Aug 6 when he was remanded.

Yu, who is married with an infant child, could have been jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined on each charge of having sex with a person below 16 years old.
