SINGAPORE - A sub-contractor for the Bugis Downtown line was on Wednesday fined $100,000 for a fatal worksite accident in 2012.

Sin Herh Construction failed to ensure the safe erection of a formwork structure, for a linkway roof slab at the site. It also failed to ensure the safe conduct of concreting works for the structure.

Chinese nationals Dou Chunjie and Meng Huaiyou were plugging gaps in the formwork, from which concrete was leaking, when the scaffolding collapsed. They were buried in concrete and died.

Eight others were injured in the accident on July 18, 2012.

The main contractor, Soletanche Bachy-Koh Brothers Joint Venture, was fined $70,000 in February.

Sin Herh, which pleaded guilty, could have been fined up to $500,000 for failing to take reasonably practicable measures to ensure the safety of employees under it.
