SINGAPORE - A woman was charged in court on Wednesday with eight counts of misappropriating a total of $1.7 million from her former employer.

Satwant Kaur d/o Sardara Singh, 48, was employed as a secretary by Redstar Marine Consultants when she allegedly pocketed cash cheques of between $35,070 and $371,619 from the company over seven years.

The alleged offences took place between April 2005 and August 2012.

The prosecution asked for four weeks' adjournment, saying Satwant will be facing more charges under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act. Investigations are ongoing.

Satwant, represented by Mr R.S. Bajwa, will be back in court on Oct 29.

Her $300,000 bail has been extended until the next mention of her case.

If convicted, she could be jailed for up to seven years and fined on each charge.
