SINGAPORE - An engineer, who pushed another man in a road rage case, was jailed for one week on Wednesday.

Desmond Tan Si Liang, 25, pleaded guilty to using criminal force in pushing Mr Jeffrey Tan Keok Hng, 55, a sales manager, on his chest at Block 821 Tampines Street 81 on Jan 21 this year.

The court heard that Mr Jeffrey Tan was driving his car along Tampines Street 81 when he saw Desmond Tan riding across a zebra crossing on his motorised bicycle.

He had to stop his car suddenly to avoid hitting the accused. He also sounded his horn at him.

Mr Jeffrey Tan continued driving and entered the carpark at Block 829.

Angry at the victim for sounding his horn, Desmond Tan followed him to the carpark and pushed him as he was walking near Block 821, causing the victim to fall.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Quek Jing Feng said the offence was pre-meditated as the accused had followed the victim to the carpark and confronted him when he could have just walked away.

District Judge Kamala Ponnampalam, who took another charge of causing hurt to the victim into consideration, said the offence arose from an incident on the road, and that road rage cases of this nature are typically viewed and dealt with firmly by the courts.

The maximum punishment for the offence is three months' jail and a $1,500 fine.
