SINGAPORE - A 41-year-old engineer was jailed for 12 weeks on Wednesday in relation to a long-running online vice ring scandal involving an underage girl.

Low Teow Guan is the 49th man to be dealt with and the 47th to be convicted out of the 51 men first hauled to court three years ago. Two have been acquitted and most of the others were jailed between 10 and 12 weeks each for similar offences.

Low admitted to paying $450 for the sexual services of a 17-year-old social escort working for pimp Tang Boon Thiew on Oct 1, 2010. The court heard that Tang, 41, started operating the online vice ring in 2010.

The minor, who is now 22, was described on the website as an 18-year-old polytechnic student. She started working for Tan sometime in September 2010.

After coming across her profile, Low sent Tang a text message to book her for sex.

Low booked a room at Hotel 81 Bencoolen the same day and waited for the minor. She came sometime between 2.45pm and 4.24pm, and they had sex after he paid her $450.

Tang was sentenced to 58 months' jail and fined $90,000 in January 2013 after being convicted of 20 vice-related charges.

For having commercial sex with a person aged under 18 years, Low could have been jailed for up to seven years and/or fined.
