Coffee shop worker accused of murdering man in Hougang sent for psychiatric assessment

SINGAPORE - A part-time coffee shop worker who allegedly murdered a customer was on Friday (March 4) ordered to be remanded at the medical centre in Changi Prison for psychiatric evaluation.

Khor Tzoong Meng, 50, purportedly caused the death of logistics worker Ang Kim Keat, 37, at the void deck of Block 23, Hougang Avenue 3, at about 2.10am last Thursday (Feb 25).

Mr Ang was found injured at the scene and was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he died at 3.28am.

Khor was arrested later that morning, near Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

He was charged in court the next day on Feb 26 and remanded at Central Police Division for further investigations.

Lawyers Josephus Tan and Tan Jin Song, from Fortis Law Corp, are acting pro bono for Khor.

The case will be mentioned again on March 24.

Khor faces the death penalty if convicted.
