CEO on trial for sexual assault of son's classmate

He allegedly abused nine-year-old boy at sleepover

A 47-year-old foreign chief executive of a company here went on trial yesterday for sexually assaulting his youngest son's classmate, then nine, who slept over at his house after a Halloween party two years ago.

The father of three, who cannot be named due to a court order, pleaded not guilty to one charge of aggravated molestation and two counts of aggravated sexual assault by penetration.

The alleged victim was one of the children invited by the accused and his wife for a trick-or-treat party, followed by a sleepover, on Oct 31, 2015, Deputy Public Prosecutor Christina Koh said in her opening address in the High Court.

At about 10.30pm, the alleged victim went to the youngest son's room to sleep. The son slept on the lower deck of his bunk bed while the alleged victim slept on the upper deck.

The DPP said the alleged victim, who could not fall asleep as the room felt warm, will testify that at about 11.15pm, the accused opened the door and walked into the room.

The boy pretended to be asleep while the man stepped on the lower bunk and touched his genitalia, said the DPP.

The man left the room but returned shortly after and performed oral sex on the alleged victim, said the DPP. He then left the room for a while and returned again to perform the same sex act.

After the man left the room for the third time, the alleged victim decided he did not want to stay any longer.

The boy packed his belongings and went to the bedroom of the accused to tell him that he wanted to go home as he was feeling unwell. The wife of the accused then contacted the boy's father to pick him up.

After getting into his father's car, the alleged victim told him what the accused had done to him.

Shocked, the father confronted the accused. In the ensuing argument, the accused denied the accusations, saying he had been in his room using his computer.

The alleged victim's father lodged a police report two days later, on Nov 2.

The court heard yesterday that experiments were conducted by the Health Sciences Authority to show that the bed could withstand the additional weight of the accused.

However, the alleged victim's clothes were not tested for DNA of the accused. This was because the alleged victim's father had washed the clothes before lodging the report.

The alleged victim, now 11 years old, and his parents will testify in a closed-door setting.

The punishment for aggravated sexual assault by penetration is a jail term of between eight and 20 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The punishment for aggravated molestation is a jail term of up to five years, with fine or caning.
