A Belgian banker has admitted killing his five-year-old son by smothering him with a cushion.

A court heard how expat Philippe Graffart, 42, had been going through a bitter custody battle for his son Keryan when he decided to suffocate the boy at his apartment.

Afterwards, he cradled the boy's body in his arms, crying, then told him that he loved him and was going to join him. He then deliberately crashed his car into a tunnel wall and was taken to hospital.

After leaving the hospital, he went to a police station. The police later found his son's body. Graffart will be sentenced on Aug 22.
