Abalone thief arrested in Jurong East

SINGAPORE - A 62-year-old man believed to have stolen from a Cold Storage supermarket at Jurong Gateway was arrested on Tuesday.

On Jan 30, four cans of abalone, worth $190.68 in total, had been stolen.

Officers from Jurong East Neighbourhood Police Centre arrested the man at Jurong East on Tuesday evening, after they going through close-circuit television (CCTV) footage and doing ground enquiries to establish his identity.

He will be charged in Court for theft on Wednesday. If convicted, he faces a maximum jail term of seven years in jail and a fine.

Last month, a 54-year-old man was arrested for stealing six cans of abalone worth a total of $416.80 from a supermarket in VivoCity. He was charged with theft.
