60-year-old man arrested by police after waving cleaver at Eunos coffee shop

SINGAPORE - A 60-year-old man who was seen waving a cleaver about at a coffee shop in Eunos on Sunday night (Jan 28) was arrested by a group of police officers.

The man had been seen holding the cleaver near the coffee shop at Block 7, Eunos Crescent.

The Straits Times understands that he was seen placing the cleaver in a plastic bag and leaving it in the vicinity before returning to the coffee shop, where he was seen muttering to himself and stumbling about.

A video that went viral online shows the man in a red top shouting while a group of about 10 police officers stand by.

They then move in and apprehend him. Officers from the police's Emergency Response Team are also seen at the scene.

The police said the man was arrested for the possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and suspected drug-related offences.

The cleaver was found nearby.

Police investigations are ongoing.
