SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 60-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of housebreaking and forgery.

On June 19, the Singapore Police Force received a report that a unit located along French Road had been broken into and that some cheques were missing. Through extensive enquiries, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Jalan Sultan on the same day.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was an ex-employee and had stolen cheques belonging to the company. The suspect forged the employer's signature to encash cheques amounting to S$60,000.

Investigations are ongoing. If convicted for an offence of housebreaking and theft, the suspect may be jailed for up to 10 years. If convicted for forgery of a valuable security, the suspect may be jailed for up to 15 years, and fined.
