SINGAPORE - A 19-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday (Nov 29) for suspected involvement in several cheating cases on the Carousell online marketplace, the police said in a press release on Wednesday.

Victims had been lodging police reports since September, complaining about a seller who failed to deliver the goods after payment was transferred into the bank account specified.

The seller had advertised items such as branded lipsticks and Universal Studios Singapore Halloween Horror Night tickets at low prices.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The suspect may be charged with cheating, which carries a fine and up to 10 years' imprisonment.

The police advise members of the public to be careful when buying items from strangers online.

Buyers should pay only on delivery if possible, or use shopping platforms where the money is only released to the seller upon receipt of the items purchased.
