SINGAPORE - If you hear bangs at Changi Airport Terminal 3 in the wee hours of Tuesday (Oct 17) morning, do not be alarmed.

It is part of a multi-agency counter-terrorism exercise which will be held there between 1am and 3am, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 15).

It will involve the SPF, Changi Airport Group, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Ministry of Health and other agencies.

"During the exercise, blanks and pyrotechnics will be used at various locations of the terminal. Members of the public are advised not to be alarmed," SPF said.

The SPF added that "Exercise-In-Progress" signs will be displayed prominently, while cordons will be set up within the exercise venues.

"Announcements will also be made through the terminal's public address system prior to the start of the exercise."

The exercise, part of efforts to prepare for a multi-agency response to possible terror attacks here, will allow SPF to boost its coordination with other agencies and stakeholders in the aviation sector.

While the agencies work closely to prevent, deter and respond to any attacks, "continued vigilance and preparedness on the part of the community is important as they also play a key part" in response efforts.
