Covid-19 big factor in 13% rise in global PC shipments

Move to work-from-home and online studies drove up demand for computers last year

After years of sluggish performance, PC markets worldwide, including in Singapore, saw a surge in demand for computers driven by stay-at-home activities during the Covid-19 pandemic, with global shipments rising by about 13 per cent last year.

According to technology research company International Data Corporation (IDC), world wide shipments of PCs - desktops, laptops and high performance workstations - grew 13.1 per cent last year compared with 2019, with shipments increasing from 268 million units to 303 million.
