Residents living near Siglap Canal will get to enjoy new features such as a rain garden, a community deck and more greenery by 2015 after the portions of the canal are enhanced.

The 3.2km Siglap Canal runs between Bedok Reservoir Road and the sea, passing through estates such Kembangan, Telok Kurau and Marine Parade. PUB will deck over a 150m section of the canal next to Kampong Kembangan Community Club, providing a plaza where line dancing and Taiji can be carried out.

Further upstream, PUB is also partnering Telok Kurau Primary School to introduce features like a rain garden, a roof garden and a detention tank within the school compound. Acting Minister for Manpower and Marine Parade GRC MP Tan Chuan-Jin officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony Saturday.

The Siglap Canal makeover is part of PUB's Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters Programme, which transforms Singapore's water bodies into beautiful and clean streams, rivers or lakes. Since the programme's launch in 2006, 22 projects have been completed. Another 20 projects will commence in the next five years.
