Commercial Affairs Department to get new director; outgoing director to become new SGX chief regulatory officer

SINGAPORE - Mr David Chew Siong Tai, 49, will be appointed Director, Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) on June 13, said a press release from the Singapore Police Force.

Mr Chew, a Legal Service officer, takes over from Mr Tan Boon Gin who will join the Singapore Exchange on June 15 as its new Chief Regulatory Officer, replacing Mr Yeo Lian Sim then.

Mr Chew joined the Singapore Legal Service in 1992. He has held various appointments including District Judge at the Subordinate Courts, Deputy Public Prosecutor and Senior State Counsel at the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC). He is currently a Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Financial and Technology Crime Division of the AGC.

Mr Tan, 43, has helmed CAD since July 2011. He joined the Singapore Legal Service in 1997 and has held various appointments, including Deputy Public Prosecutor at AGC, District Judge at the Subordinate Courts and Executive Director, Investment Intermediaries Department at the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

SGX chief executive Mr Magnus Bocker welcomed the appointment of Mr Tan in a media release.

"His extensive experience and knowledge of Singapore's regulatory and corporate investigation environment will be a significant addition to our bench strength as we continue to enhance our markets and regulatory function," said Mr Bocker.

"I am confident Boon Gin will contribute to the success of SGX as a world-class market operator and regulator."
