The Commander of the United States Pacific Air Forces, General Lori Robinson, called on Singapore's Chief of Air Force, Major-General Hoo Cher Mou, yesterday.

This was at the Ministry of Defence, where she also inspected a Guard of Honour.

She also visited the Changi Command and Control Centre - which brings together domestic maritime agencies such as the Maritime and Port Authority, Police Coast Guard and the Republic of Singapore Navy - at the Changi Naval Base yesterday.

As part of her four-day introductory tour, she will visit Sembawang Air Base today. Tomorrow, she will speak to students at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College as part of its distinguished speakers programme.

Gen Robinson's visit underscores the excellent and longstanding defence ties between Singapore and the US, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement yesterday.

Both air forces interact regularly through a wide range of activities, including visits, professional exchanges and bilateral exercises, which have, in turn, improved professional relations, it added.

Gen Robinson leaves Singapore tomorrow .
