One person has died, and another has been hospitalised, after a collision between two ships.

The collision between an Antigua and Barbuda-registered container ship and a harbourcraft occurred in Sinki Fairway, about seven kilometres southwest of Pasir Panjang Terminal at noon on Wednesday.

There were two persons on board the harbourcraft which sank following the collision. A passing vessel rendered immediate assistance. One of the people involved was pronounced dead while the other was sent to National University Hospital for medical attention.

The authority added that it had issued navigational broadcasts to vessels in the area to keep clear of the incident area. Port operations are unaffected and investigations are on going, said the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) in a statement on Wednesday.
