COE prices end higher for most except commercial vehicles

CERTIFICATE of entitlement (COE) prices ended mostly higher on Wednesday at the latest tender - the last for this year - as people rush to close car deals ahead of next February's COE re-categorisation.

The COE premium for cars up to 1,600cc rose 1.2 per cent to close at $74,002. The premium for bigger cars - those above 1,600cc - also rose by 3.6 per cent to finish at $75,700. The price for the Open category COEs, which can be used for any vehicle type but ends up mainly for bigger cars, rose by 0.8 per cent to $77,501. Motorcycle premiums also ended 4.1 per cent higher at $1,782.

Only commercial vehicle bucked the trend and ended 6.1 per cent down at $48,001 - dropping for the fifth consecutive round.

The fall comes ahead of dealers who have cleared their stock that do not meet the new Euro 5 diesel emission standard that kicks in on Jan 1.
