COE premiums finish mostly higher; only commercial vehicle COE ends lower

Certificate of entitlement (COE) premiums ended higher in all but one category at Wednesday's bidding exercise. The commercial vehicle category was the only one to see a drop in premium prices.

Premiums for smaller cars- those up to 1,600cc - rose by 2 per cent to end at $78,602, while that of larger cars above 1,600cc crept up by 2.7 per cent to $82,900.

The motorcycle COE premium registered the largest increase, jumping by 7.1 per cent to end at $4,289. Meanwhile, the open category COE - which can be used for any vehicle but ends up mainly for larger cars - saw a 2.4 per cent rise to $84,001.

The COE price for commercial vehicles slid 4.3 per cent to $53,891. This is the fourth bidding exercise since the Land Transport Authority added a new criterion for Category A cars. Besides meeting the 1,600cc limit on engine capacity, cars in this category must also not produce more than 130bhp in power.
