COE for small cars continues to rise, stays ahead of premiums for big cars

CERTIFICATES of entitlement for smaller cars continued to stay ahead of COEs for bigger cars in the latest tender on Wednesday.

COE for cars up to 1,600cc ended at $62,999, up from $62,497 two weeks ago. The premium for cars above 1,600cc finished at $61,700, down slightly from $62,000.

Open COEs, which can be used for any vehicle type, but end up usually for bigger cars, closed at $62,301, up from $62,000 a fortnight ago.

Commercial vehicle COEs slid from $58,502 to end at $57,051. Motorcycle COEs ended at $1,700, down from $1,791.

This is the third time that small-car premiums are costlier than big-car premiums since the car-cooling measures were introduced in late-February.

Observers said more Open certificates are now being snapped up by buyers and sellers of smaller vehicles.
