The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will widen Clementi Road between Bukit Timah Road and the Ayer Rajah Expressway to improve traffic flow along the busy road corridor.

It will soon call a tender to widen Clementi Road to four lanes in each direction, up from three. This increase in road capacity is to cater to traffic demand from future developments in Clementi Town, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and along Clementi Road, said the LTA.

The project will also involve enhancing major traffic junctions along Clementi Road, and a stretch of the westbound Commonwealth Avenue West between Clementi Road and Clementi Ave 6.

Road widening works are expected to begin in the first quarter of next year and conclude by the first quarter of 2017. The Government will need to acquire two narrow sections of a grass verge of the NUS University Town for this project, but the main structures of the University Town will not be affected.
