Cleaner jailed for 3 months for hitting wife with hockey stick

A cleaner who suspected his wife was cheating on him hit her thrice with a hockey stick. Neither knew she was pregnant at that time.

Madam Hasnah Johari, 25, a housewife, suffered a 4cm cut on her head and bruising on her waist and leg. She was given three days of medical leave.

The assault took place on March 27 this year. On Wednesday, a district court sentenced Mohamad Jumahad Abdul, 31, to three months in jail for injuring her with a weapon. The couple has reconciled and she cried as sentence was passed. He pleaded guilty last week.

The court heard that Mohamad Jumahad had moved out of the matrimonial home in Tiong Bahru on March 22 this year after disagreements with his wife. Five days later, he came back at 9.30pm. His wife was not home, but he found a bag and a pair of men's shoes in the flat.

When she returned 15 minutes later, accompanied by her god brother, Mohamad Jumahad ordered him to leave. The couple quarrelled and he hit her with the hockey stick. The blows landed on her calf, head and waist. He then fled and she called the police.

Madam Hasnah told The Straits Times that the bag and shoes that sparked off the dispute belonged to her god brother who is a secondary school student.
