Police on Saturday arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with at least two cases of robbery in Choa Chu Kang housing estate.

The first case involved a 19-year-old woman who was robbed of her mobile phone at knife-point in a lift at Choa Chu Kang Ave 4 at about 10.40pm on Aug 11. The second case, which occurred at about 7pm on Aug 21, involved a 16-year-old girl who reported that she was robbed of her wallet in a lift at another block at Choa Chu Kang Ave 4.

With the clear descriptions given by the both victims, officers from the Jurong Police Division were track down the suspect on Saturday morning.

Acting on a call received at about 5.30am, officers managed to spot the suspect in the vicinity of Choa Chu Kang Ave 5 and arrested him after a short chase. A fruit-knife, believed to have been used to commit the first robbery, and other accessories worn while committing the offences were found on him.

If convicted of armed robbery, the suspect can be jailed for up to 14 years and receive 24 strokes of the cane.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim commended the victims for their calm presence of mind in recalling the suspect's description and alerting police promptly. He also commended his officers for their swift action and excellent team work which led to the successful arrest.
