The man accused of murdering a raw materials planner at a multi-storey carpark in Choa Chu Kang was remanded for another week for further investigation.

Lawyer Sunil Sudheesan has come on board to represent Chia Kee Chen, 53.

Chia is said to have caused the death of Mr Dexmon Chua Yizhi, 37, at the multi-storey carpark at Block 429A Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 together with "unknown persons between Dec 28 and 29" last year, according to court documents.

Mr Chua was reported missing and his decomposed body later was found in thick, tall grass in Lim Chu Kang.

The prosecution applied for Chia's further remand at Central police division lock-up in view of the complexity of the case.

Mr Sudheesan said he had no objection as he appreciated that there were accomplices.

He then requested that his client have access to counsel but the prosecution objected.

Mr Sudheesan's application for limited access to Chia to tell him of his rights in the presence of either the investigation officer or the police prosecutor was also turned down. The prosecutor said the investigation would tell Chia of these things.

Chia will return to court on Jan 16.

If convicted of murder, he can either be sentenced to death or life imprisonment.
