Childaid raises $1.88m

SINGAPORE Press Holdings chairman Lee Boon Yang and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong presenting Natalie Chew, 10, and Nurin Syahmina, 11, with a cheque for $1.88 million, the amount raised by this year's ChildAid concert.

The girls from the Little Arts Academy Ballerinas took part in last night's gala performance, the second of three ChildAid concerts, and are beneficiaries of The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.

This year's concerts, held at the University Cultural Centre, have raised more than last year's record of $1.28 million.

The money goes to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund. The annual fundraiser, held since 2005, showcases young talent. About 1,500 people were at last night's performance.

Among the 130 performers last night was Japanese violinist Asami Wada, 13.
