In a shock announcement early yesterday morning, chef Andre Chiang said he would close his two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Andre in Bukit Pasoh on Feb 14 next year.

The food industry has been buzzing with the news, which came just as the fine-dining French restaurant had its seventh anniversary.

Chiang, 41, also wants to return his Michelin stars, and asked that his Taipei restaurant Raw not be included in the proposed Michelin guide for Taiwan. He said he would return to Taiwan, where he was born, and research its produce, showcasing its best in Raw.

The Singapore permanent resident will still visit the Republic and have a hand in shaping the restaurant that will take over the premises of his current eatery.
